Call for Student Representative(s)
The IEEE Robotics & Automation Society (IEEE-RAS) Technical Committee on Neuro-Robotics Systems (NRS) invites applications for Student Representative(s) to actively support and contribute to the technical, organizational, and outreach activities of the TC, while fostering student engagement within the IEEE RAS neuro-robotics community.
About the NRS TC
Neuro-Robotics Systems (NRS) is an interdisciplinary research domain integrating neuroscience, robotics, and artificial intelligence, with the goal of advancing intelligent, adaptive, and human-centered robotic systems.
The NRS TC promotes neuro-robotics as a core research area within IEEE RAS, supports cross-disciplinary collaboration, and facilitates the dissemination of cutting-edge research through TC-led activities, including workshops, tutorials, and conference events.
Through the involvement of Student Representatives, the NRS TC aims to strengthen student participation, foster early-career leadership, and ensure the long-term vitality of neuro-robotics research within the IEEE RAS community.
Role Description
Student Representatives will work closely with the TC Co-Chairs and serve as a liaison between the student community and the TC leadership. The role focuses on community service, coordination, and leadership, rather than on specific research tasks.
Responsibilities
Student Representatives are expected to support TC activities, including:
- Assisting in the planning and coordination of TC activities (seminars, meetings, tutorials, workshops);
- Supporting student engagement and in-person events at flagship conferences (e.g., ICRA, IROS);
- Facilitating communication between students and TC leadership;
- Promoting the TC, supporting outreach initiatives, and recruiting new student members;
- Contributing to the preparation of the ICRA Welcome Kit (April 2026);
- Representing the student perspective within the TC.
Eligibility and Term
- Term: March 1, 2026 – February 28, 2027 (renewable for up to three consecutive years, subject to satisfactory performance);
- Registered MSc or PhD student, not expected to graduate during the term year;
- Each student may apply to only one IEEE-RAS Technical Committee;
- Current IEEE-RAS student membership.
Benefits of the Role
- Opportunity to work closely with the NRS TC leadership and contribute to TC initiatives;
- Leadership and service experience within the IEEE RAS community;
- Networking opportunities with researchers and practitioners in neuro-robotics;
- Increased visibility and engagement within the IEEE RAS technical community.
Student Representatives who significantly contribute to the ICRA Welcome Kit may be eligible for one complimentary student registration to an IEEE RAS–sponsored conference, subject to TAB evaluation.
